Terbaik dari Ladang

"Terbaik dari Ladang" is an extension of the exhibition "KAWASAN LEMBU: HATI-HATI MEMANDU". This exhibition was birthed by five artists graduating from the same art college and from the influences of the established academic framework - a framework the artists feel have limited them creatively. In college, the artists were exposed to two different approaches; the instilling of traditional, orthodox and rigid methods of expression, and the freedom of going and breaking away from boundaries that have been placed upon them.

After leaving that bubble for real society, they revisit themselves in various stages of self-contemplation and self-reflection. In doing so, the artists discover the stark differences between reality and ideals. They are stuck in confusion trying to shape themselves into what is expected of them, whilst at the same time feeling like farm animals; directionless and without thought.

However, the artists see a way out of the grazing fields. Through experimenting with art and its different mediums, through paying attention to the real world and taking in all its forms and fluidity, and through self-expression based on their own terms.

Milk products come labelled as the "most natural" or the "freshest and best", but is it true? The title of the exhibition "Terbaik dari Ladang" is by itself self-deprecating and also a reminder of whether or not the artists are really “as good as the art institute claims them to be.
